How does alcohol affect you if you have too much sugar in your diet?

I have a friend who drinks a lot of orange juice (several servings a day), and also loves to eat hard candies, cookies, sometimes drinks sodas, and eats things that she doesn’t even think about being sugary i.e. yogurt and granola for breakfast or fruit. She’s not fat, just has a lot of sugar in her diet. I think the sugar makes up a large base of her caloric intake.
She had a terrible incident with drinking the other night. I was wondering if the sugar she had consumed before drinking affected her.

I would think not.
